Comparing Relations with a Multi-holed Region

چکیده
Relation models have treated multi-holed regions relations either the same as hole-free regions relations, loosing this way the peculiarities of the holed topology, or with methods dependent on the number of holes. This paper discusses a model of relations between a hole-free and a multi-holed region that departs from past approaches by using the frequencies of the relations in which the holes participate to summarize the relation. The model is independent of the number of holes and builds on the 23 topological relations between a hole-free and a singleholed region. With the help of a balanced algorithm the relation model is used in a method that compares relations for their topological similarity, by computing the cost of transforming one relation into the other. The placement of the holes in relation to the hole-free region is found to be of same importance as the placement of the host of the holes, for similarity comparisons.

Hierarchical Model for the Similarity Measurement of a Complex Holed-Region Entity Scene
Complex multi-holed-region entity scenes (i.e., sets of random region with holes) are common in spatial database systems, spatial query languages, and the Geographic Information System (GIS). A multi-holed-region (region with an arbitrary number of holes) is an abstraction of the real world that primarily represents geographic objects that have more than one interior boundary, such as areas tha...
متن کاملSingle-Holed Regions: Their Relations and Inferences
Abstract. The discontinuities in boundaries and exteriors that regions with holes expose offer opportunities for inferences that are impossible for regions without holes. A systematic study of the binary relations between single-holed regions shows not only an increase in the number of feasible relations (from eight between two regions without holes to 152 for two single-holed regions), but als...
متن کاملReducing the Salt Added to Takeaway Food: Within-Subjects Comparison of Salt Delivered by Five and 17 Holed Salt Shakers in Controlled Conditions
OBJECTIVES To determine if the amount of salt delivered by standard salt shakers commonly used in English independent takeaways varies between those with five and 17 holes; and to determine if any differences are robust to variations in: the amount of salt in the shaker, the length of time spent shaking, and the person serving. DESIGN Four laboratory experiments comparing the amount of salt d...
متن کاملAdjunct Elimination in Context Logic for Trees
We study adjunct-elimination results for Context Logic applied to trees, following previous results by Lozes for Separation Logic and Ambient Logic. In fact, it is not possible to prove such elimination results for the original single-holed formulation of Context Logic. Instead, we prove our results for multi-holed Context Logic.
متن کاملModified Pareto archived evolution strategy for the multi-skill project scheduling problem with generalized precedence relations
In this research, we study the multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem, where there are generalized precedence relations between project activities. Workforces are able to perform one or several skills, and their efficiency improves by repeating their skills. For this problem, a mathematical formulation has been proposed that aims to optimize project completion time, reworki...
